Brandon’s Eyes is a recent boutique web design project that I completed towards the end of 2009 with custom illustrations of children. Brandon’s Eyes website was started to bring awareness about the need for Eye Protective Safety. Due to an eye injury Brandon received at the age of three (3), fifteen (15) surgeries later, hundreds of eye drops, sleepless nights, many tears, a lot of anger, a load of fear, and tons of prayers, it is now time to channel all the energy into a positive direction. Cake Makes a Party was a very fun boutique illustrated site to design and customize. I used Illustrator CS4 for the logo design and illustrations and Photoshop CS4 for the .psd template design. The business card design and custom logo a unique online presence for Kathy Brannan’s custom cake business in Tennessee. All graphics, illustration, web development and design are one of a kind custom designed originals for Cake Makes a Party.

Classy Sudz® is a recent boutique web design project I’ve just completed. Cathy wanted an eCommerce store to sell her handmade soaps as well as a matching blog to keep her customers informed of her newest products.

I always have so much fun designing such girly and pink sites Classy Sudz® is a handmade soap company. You will find many wonderful and yummy soaps for all occasions.

Project: eCommerce web design, custom blog theme, custom graphics and logo design (see image to left). Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS3 for all graphics and logo design.

How to Make a Custom WordPress Page Template

In WordPress, there’s an option before you publish a page, to select a template. This option will only show if your theme has page templates. Custom page templates are great if you need a page to look different than other pages on your blog. The whole purpose of having a custom template is to possibly show a different sidebar, a full page width (no sidebar) or totally different HTML in this area. You might need to change your style sheet by adding special classes for your content or sidebars if you do this.

This is how to make a custom page template for your WordPress theme. Instead of showing bits an pieces of code that you can’t visualize together, I’m just going to show what the whole code should look like. Obviously, your code will call your style sheet classes and they will probably be called something other than “main” and “content”. Create a new PHP page and add the code below to the top of the page. You can do this in a text editor or an html editor. Right after where its says “Template Name:”, type in the name you want your template to be called. That’s the template name that will show up in the drop down box in the page you’re creating.

You can also take your index.php file and copy and paste that into a new file below the reference that goes at the top to get you started. But, doing that really wouldn’t look different than your main site. Once you have your code created (based on what I’ve shown you below) for your page template, save your page as template_name.php (don’t really use the file name I just used, come up with your own name and don’t name it page.php or you will overwrite your page file). Upload that to your theme file and when you edit or add a new page to your WP blog, your template name should now show up in the drop down menu to select from.

My web and graphic design portfolio is finally up and running. I’m also working on a gallery of premade templates I’ve made (current and from the past) as well as look back at all of the designs I’ve made for my own website. It’s kind of cool to see how my site has changed over the years and I’d like to be able to share that.

HCH Class of 1989

We’ve just launched a fun and functional site for Hancock Central High School’s reunion committee. Hancock Central High School is located in Hancock, MI (way up in the U.P.). For their 20 year high school reunion they needed a website to bring all the classmates together and keep them updated with the reunion events and find old classmates.

Client: HCH Class of 1989 Reunion Committee

Project: Custom logo design, custom WordPress theme, custom php/css, custom graphics, custom print design, launching online registration custom coded after January 2009. Custom Flash image gallery will be added after the reunion in July 2009.
